Aston Martin is one of the teams that is under the most pressure to make progress in 2023. This is especially true after signing four-time World Champion Fernando Alonso on a multi-year deal to help lead the project. Team owner Lawrence Stroll will be eager to see his team make significant strides and showcase its potential in 2023.
The budget cap has equalized the playing field for Aston Martin and eliminates any excuses for the team to not make progress. Consistent improvements throughout last season are encouraging for the team, and they will look to climb the field and outperform the likes of Alpine and McLaren.
In a recent interview with Aston Martin, Deputy Technical Director Eric Blandin discussed the team’s position ahead of 2023. Blandin stated that the AMR22 became a laboratory, and the team tested many things on the track to further their understanding. The team was also able to push the performance envelope with how they were running the car towards the end of last season.
Eric Blandin“We took all our learnings from last year’s car and applied them to this year’s car. So much of the AMR23 is new, it’s completely different from the AMR22. We’ve changed more than 90 percent of the parts, and more than 95 percent of the aerodynamic surfaces are different.
F1 Community Eager to See Aston Martin Make Progress
The wider F1 community will share the expectation of Aston Martin making major strides in 2023, considering that the Silverstone-based squad (when it was known as ‘Force India’ and ‘Racing Point’) achieved better results with far more modest resources.
Having spent the last few years heavily investing in infrastructure and personnel, Lawrence Stroll will be eager to see the team take advantage of these investments and prove why two World Champions have been persuaded to join their project.
The team will have to prove that they can consistently outperform their competitors, and Aston Martin will be looking to make significant progress in 2023. It remains to be seen whether the team will be able to make the strides that they are aiming for.
