President Mohammed Ben Sulayem initiates review of internal procedures
The FIA has today confirmed major changes to its Formula 1 structure following a review of the FIA’s internal procedures initiated by its President Mohammed Ben Sulayem. The reorganisation will be in place ahead of the start of the 2023 season, with increased investment and resources dedicated towards Formula 1 activities.
Nikolas Tombazis, who has been in charge of the FIA’s technical team since 2018 and was responsible for developing and implementing successful 2022 regulations, is taking on a more transversal role as Single Seater Director. Reporting to him are Sporting, Technical, Financial and Strategy & Operations Directors.
Steve Nielsen joins the FIA as Sporting Director, previously having worked closely with them during his time at FOM. He will oversee all sporting matters including development of Race Control and Remote Operations Centre. Tim Goss takes on Tombazis’ former position as Technical Director whilst Federico Lodi becomes Financial Director.
François Sicard joins in newly-created position within FIA
“We have dedicated a lot of time and effort to making significant informed changes to our Formula 1 team,” said President Sulayem. “By developing people within our organisation as well as bringing expertise from outside we are in best possible position moving forward.”
“I am excited about this new role within the Federation,” commented Tombazis. “We have talented people working hard to deliver standard that Formula 1 demands – I fully believe this new structure will take our resources further.”</p?
“I’m looking forward to engaging with another new chapter at the FIA,” said Steve Nielsen. “Having worked closely with many teams and organisations in Formula 1 I understand challenges that come with being regulator.”</P?
