At the end of last year, Lewis Hamilton announced that he was going to extend his contract with Mercedes and discuss a new deal over the winter. He stated that talks were likely to begin in the next couple of months and both parties have been eager to get things sorted for the upcoming season. However, despite this enthusiasm nothing has yet been agreed as Hamilton and Wolff went on separate Christmas holidays.
The New Deal
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff is confident that once both parties are back in Europe they will be able to “wrestle” out a deal quickly. He believes their relationship has grown so much over the past 10 years that settling a new contract shouldn’t take long. It is expected that the agreement will be for at least two years in order to give maximum flexibility.
Hamilton himself admitted that he doesn’t plan on putting a limit on how long his career should continue as there’s still plenty of achievements left to complete with Mercedes. The Briton even launched his own production company recently which shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Motivation To Go On
“I feel great mind and body,” said Hamilton when asked about how much longer he plans on staying in racing. “I think there’s more stuff to achieve together.” Despite not knowing how long it might last, he shows no sign of losing motivation or passion for racing as demonstrated by his ever-increasing list of wins.
“There’s a lot of great things being put in place,” continued Hamilton when questioned about what comes next after signing a new contract extension with Mercedes. With such an impressive track record it’s easy to see why both sides are keen on getting something agreed sooner rather than later.
The wait is now on for any news regarding Lewis Hamilton‘s future as both him and Toto Wolff look set towards settling a new deal before pre-season testing begins shortly.</p
