LMP2
Algarve Pro Racing, driven by James Allen, topped the LMP2 category, posting a best time of 1:48.674 in their Oreca 07 – Gibson, he was improving laps after laps and was always at the top of the time sheet until the end.
They put a gap of 0.881 seconds between them and the 2nd Inter Europol Competition, with driver Olli Caldwell clocking in at 1:49.555.
IDEC Sport, with Laurents Hörr behind the wheel, came in third with a time of 1:49.896.
The track conditions were challenging, with a still wet track but no rain, improving conditions during the session meant that the times were lowering laps after laps, rewarding the last lap of the qualifying.
LMP2 PRO AM
In the LMP2 Pro/Am category, Team Virage, driven by Alexander Mattschull, led the pack, recording a time of 1:55.426 in their Oreca 07 – Gibson.
Racing Team Turkey, with Salih Yoluc at the helm, secured the second position with a timing of 1:56.472.
Proton Competition, driven by Giorgio Roda, rounded out the top three, clocking in at 1:56.495.
The session was particularly challenging with Fred Poordad of Algarve Pro racing encountering a spin and Salih Yoluc almost losing control after the last corner before putting a solid time giving him the 2nd place for this afternoon race.
LMP3
Team Virage, with driver Manuel Espirito Santo, dominated the LMP3 category, recording a best time of 1:56.029 in their Ligier JS P320-Nissan.
They were closely followed in 2nd place by Oscar Tunjo #12 with a time of 1:56:255.
The rest of the competition was more than 1.5 seconds behing in tricky rain and wet track.
This marked the team’s second consecutive pole. Santo expressed his excitement, stating, “It’s superb to get back to back pole, especially at home in Portimao Portugal, it was one lap and done with the rain, so I gave it everything, the quali was complicated we need to adapt, it’s going to be a fun race”.
The qualifying session was impacted by rain, which picked up 5 minutes before the end, preventing drivers from bettering their times.
LMGTE
TF Sport, with Arnold Robin at the wheel, led the LMGTE category, clocking in a best time of 2:01.872 in their Aston Martin Vantage AMR.
Formula Racing, driven by Johnny Laursen, secured second place with a lap time of 2:02.830.
The third position was claimed by Spirit of Race, with Duncan Cameron driving, recording a time of 2:02.973.
The session was interrupted by 2 red flags, one early by the Ferrari 55 and another with 6 seconds left in the session as Michael Fassbender of Proton Competition was trapped in the gravels, causing all lap times of car 93 to be deleted.
