Get ready for a splash of color on the racetrack as Peugeot Sport has just revealed a special livery for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This eye-catching design is set to appear on the pair of Peugeot 9X8 Hypercars during the iconic race’s centenary edition. Although the French manufacturer hasn’t released specific details on the design, fans are already excited to see it in action.

The stunning livery was unveiled at the Milan Design Week event, where the French firm showcased the bold color scheme that will adorn both of its entries for the World Endurance Championship centrepiece. The design, created by Spanish artist J.Demsky, draws inspiration from the double Le Mans-winning Peugeot 905 of the early 1990s, with its choice of colors.

Art Meets Technology in Peugeot 9X8 Livery

Peugeot’s design director, Matthias Hossann, shared his thoughts on the collaboration with J.Demsky, stating, “The Peugeot 905 is an icon of the 90s whose energy and creativity we wanted to celebrate. J. Demsky shares this passion and this inspiration. The graphic strength of his art, referenced but ultra-modern, transports the Peugeot 9X8 into a universe that mixes street art and technology.”

He further added that “It’s a veritable artistic performance to celebrate both automotive design and the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.” This special livery will replace the standard, predominantly grey design used by Peugeot for the regular WEC campaign, giving the cars a fresh and unique look for the race.

Peugeot 9X8 Drivers and Race Expectations

The #93 9X8 will be driven by Paul di Resta, Mikkel Jensen, and Jean-Eric Vergne, marking Peugeot’s first assault on La Sarthe since 2011. Meanwhile, Loic Duval, Gustavo Menezes, and Nico Muller will share the sister #94 machine. The team’s performance thus far in the WEC season has been rocky, with Duval, Menezes, and Muller securing the team’s best result of fifth in the second round at Portimao.

Currently, Peugeot sits fifth in the Hypercar manufacturers’ standings, only ahead of Vanwall and Glickenhaus. However, fans and racing enthusiasts alike hope that the new livery will bring a change of fortune for the team during the 24 Hours of Le Mans Centenary on June 10-11, 2023.
