As the uncertainty around his future continues, Liam Lawson is growing increasingly frustrated with Daniel Ricciardo’s lackluster performance.
The young Kiwi driver impressed during his five-race stint with AlphaTauri, even finishing in the points at the Singapore Grand Prix.
However, the team ultimately chose to go with Ricciardo’s experience over Lawson’s promising talent.
Ricciardo Under Fire
Ricciardo’s start to the season has been less than stellar, leaving him open to criticism from all sides.
Lawson himself admits that he expected more from the Australian driver. “Honestly, there’s no fixed agenda for my future. Nothing is set in stone. For me, it’s about staying ready and hoping for an opportunity to come up” Lawson said in an interview with Speedcafe.
Lawson Ready to Step Up
Despite the disappointment of not being chosen for the AlphaTauri seat, Lawson remains confident in his abilities and is ready to step up if given the chance.
“Daniel knows what he’s capable of, but I’m sure he can do better than what he’s shown so far. In any case, I’m ready to race if Racing Bulls’ plans should change” Lawson added.
Mékies Backs Lawson
Laurent Mékies, the team principal of AlphaTauri, has also hinted at the possibility of Lawson getting another chance behind the wheel.
“We will put Liam in the car at every opportunity that arises” Mékies said, suggesting that the young driver may still have a shot at proving himself on the track.
As the season continues, all eyes will be on Ricciardo to see if he can turn his fortunes around and justify AlphaTauri’s decision to choose him over Lawson.
Meanwhile, Lawson will be waiting in the wings, ready to pounce on any opportunity that comes his way.
